 Apart from eight segments in which smart innovations take place, it also shows the three connecting layers of a city. These are the physical, planned city (both buildings, public space and infrastructure), the people inhabiting the city and, for the first time in history, the digital city. This layer is playing an increasing role and I consider it to be essential in the further development of smarter cities.                                                                                      We see great opportunities for companies and entrepreneurs to focus on this layer. Even more; we think it is mandatory to offer the necessary skills and competences in the framwork of informal learning mainly in Science Learning for Learning Communities. In this digital world as connecting key between people and smart city it will all happen already and not only as it is forecasted in next coming years!

 3D printing is evolving fast and will totally change economics. Circular thinking is now becoming reality in the circular or shared economy: it’s not just printing new products, but also shredding existing material into new building materials. This offers opportunities for new products, and for new entrepreneurship: a new chain of buyers and suppliers will arise. Software, the digital side, will play an essential role, especially in this transitory phase of the next 10 or 20 years. 3D printing is but one example, though an appealing one. Biggest opportunities are in connecting the physical city to people.

Incubation in Innovation via Living Lab - Methodology and process

The INN-LL concept and methodology is based on three components:

1.Innovation Incubator

The innovation share is important to ensure products and services competitiveness. It results from tackling fundamental, application research themes and technologic transfer (the path from idea to product).  In parallel, it run a process of training specialized human resources, to put them in practice.
This is why the partnership with the industrial and universitary environment is so important.

2.Creative and Innovation Business Incubation Center

Business incubator has the role of ensuring special assistance to a starting business, when it is vulnerable on the market.
Level 1 incubation refers to ensuring general services and some expert services at lower costs than others firms with the same profile.
Level 2 incubation, the business develops and starts creating its own internal services.
After 3 -5 years the incubated firm is mature enough to leave the incubator leaving the spot for another one. Its “planting” can be done in an individual place or a technologic park.

3.Sustainable Development Center

This unit has the role of creating conceptual mutations regarding agricultural, floracultural, and aquatic renewable resources management. Interfaces are created to integrate some technical sequences between the owners of agriculture fields, flower grossists, and ponds so they use the concepts of ecological exploitation. The products are processed in production facilities from inside the park at a high-level quality.
A set of technological transfer and research projects and programs is created, that is appropriately to the local sustainable development, having important economic, ecologic and social effects. 
INN-LL proposes to start an integrated multi-cycle system to tackle the local sustainable development. 
INN-LL has the role of monitoring this evolution to determine the products and services life cycle to identify new solutions necessary to satisfy human necessities and exploitation of local resources. Through this monitoring, we check also that the business is on the ideal growing path.
Now we are searching for the most suitable solutions to place the INN-LL's spaces and utilities to ensure the long-term evolution conditions.

Proposed development stages

Objective 1: Creating and development the concept of LL INNOVATION

Stage 1. Creating the suitable partnerships, identifying and formulate the main problems

Winner at  European Seal of e-Excellence 2011 - Gold medal

The 36 winners of the European Seal of e-Excellence 2011 were announced on 1st of March 2011 at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany. Innovative companies from 18 countries joined the award ceremony to receive the award from the hands of jury members. The prestigiousEurope-wide Award honouring ICT and digital media companies with an excellent track record in innovative marketing, Innovative products and services, and Excellent marketing practices to promote them. First in Media category under the framework of ESNC - GNSS Living Lab price 2010

DINOS for smart cities is a system designed by two Maltese Scientists, Dr Alexiei Dingli and Mr Dylan Seychell.Together with Ms Tunde Kallai, they submitted the idea in the European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC). The ESNC intends to further strengthen international collaboration among these regions, particular with regard to the development of applications and services made possible by Galileo, Europe's satellite navigation system. The research was presented on the next day at the Galileo Control Centre at the European Space Agency Park in the outskirts of Munich. More: on
